Some dogs chase squirrels. Some dogs chase destiny. This one has chased every human off the couch by 12:58 p.m., claimed the good cushion, and made it extremely clear that any plans involving errands, brunch, yard work, or “just one quick trip to the store” have been denied. Sundays Are Booked is BarkShirt’s love letter to the sacred weekly ritual of doing absolutely everything you planned to do, as long as everything means football, snacks, and not answering texts.
The corgi in command of the remote
The star of the design is a corgi we have started calling Marty, short for Martin Short Legs, a living ottoman with opinions. Marty is not lounging by accident. He is installed. He has sunk into a battered gray recliner like a tiny king in a foam-stuffed throne, one paw draped forward, eyelids heavy with the confidence of someone who knows the kickoff schedule better than your uncle knows the weather.
Around him is the evidence of a perfect Sunday fortress. A frosty mug is foaming over beside a bowl of popcorn. The remote sits within paw’s reach, which is very important because Marty does not trust humans with channel discipline. A football rests near a plate of wings, because the game is physical and so is snacking. Behind him, the orange rays give the whole scene the glow of a vintage sports poster, but the expression on his face says, “I am emotionally unavailable until the late game.”
The banner text curls above and below him like a proclamation from the Department of Weekend Defense. It does not say “I’m busy.” That would be too polite. It says Sundays Are Booked, which is sharper, funnier, and just vague enough to sound like you might have a responsibility. You do. It is sitting.
The joke is in the calendar
We made this design for people whose dogs understand routine better than people do. Dogs know when the leash comes out, when the cheese drawer opens, and when the household energy shifts into Sunday mode. Marty’s joke is that he has no appointments, no meetings, no reservations, and yet his entire day is completely full. Full of couch. Full of snacks. Full of judging the play calling.
That is why this corgi football Sunday shirt works even if you are not the loudest fan in the room. It is not really about one team. It is about protecting the weekly pocket of time when the world is asked to lower its expectations. Marty is the mascot for every dog-loving servant who has ever whispered, “I can’t, I have plans,” while wearing slippers and reheating dip.
The mood sits somewhere between tailgate and nap. It has the warm, worn-in look of an old bar sign, the kind you notice above the corner booth where everybody knows the fries are better than they should be. The maroon shirt color gives the artwork a deep game-day feel, while the cream lettering and golden corgi fur pop like stadium lights just came on.
How this one got on the board
The idea started on a Monday, which feels wrong but is true. We were comparing weekend notes, and three different people admitted they had used their dog as a scheduling excuse. One had to get home because “Daisy gets weird if the pregame show is on without her.” Another skipped a hardware store run because the dog was already asleep on their lap, legally trapping them. Someone else said their corgi growled at the remote when a documentary interrupted football.
That was the moment Marty appeared in our heads. Not a hyper puppy. Not a noble athlete. A seasoned Sunday professional. We sketched him as the dog who has seen overtime, bad commercials, suspicious penalty flags, and humans pretending they are “just resting their eyes.” We gave him snacks because no true Sunday guardian works without provisions. We gave him the football because he respects the theme. We gave him that half-smirk because he knows your calendar invite never stood a chance.
We also wanted the phrase to feel useful outside football season. The best lazy-day jokes are evergreen. This dog t-shirt about protecting your weekend plans can handle playoffs, movie marathons, rainy reading days, yard avoidance, and the holy act of letting your dog pin you to the couch for three hours.
If your Sunday has already been claimed by a dog, a couch, and a very serious snack strategy, Marty is ready to make it official. Wear the shirt, cancel the nonsense, and let everyone know your availability is currently pawsed.
