Why we made it now
The idea started in a very BarkShirt place, a group chat full of dog photos, adoption anniversaries, and one friend who insisted he was “not really a dog dad” while hand-cooking chicken for a beagle named Pickles. Around the same time, shelters in our area were posting urgent foster calls, adoption events, and wish lists for towels, food, and volunteers. The phrase “dog dad” was everywhere, but it often felt polished, like matching bandanas and brunch patios. We wanted the shelter version, scruffier, funnier, and more honest.
So the design became a little tribute to the men who get pulled into rescue life sideways. The ones who start by saying, “He is not sleeping in the bed,” then wake up folded into the shape of a pretzel because a 62-pound dog is dreaming across their ribs. The ones who learn which treats upset the stomach, which streets are too loud, and which blanket is legally the dog’s blanket forever.
