This is our kind of dog character, affectionate but fully in charge. We imagined him as “Marty,” a rescue dachshund with a mysterious past, a heroic appetite, and the confidence of a dog who survived three foster couches and came out with a better legal team. Marty is sweet, absolutely. He is grateful, probably. But he also knows that rescue works both ways. You may have saved him, but he saved you from ever having a normal living room again.

A week later, three different BarkShirt people admitted they had dachshund stories with the same plot. One had a foster fail who refused to walk on wet grass. One had a long-haired rescue who hid pills in the cuff of a bathrobe. Another had a tiny red smooth coat who would only sleep if touching one human ankle, like a furry parole monitor.
So we built the design around that shared truth, rescue is not a soft-focus ending. It is the beginning of a very funny, very specific domestic partnership.
