Why We Made It
The seed for this one came from a Sunday match at the BarkShirt kitchen table, which is where half our best ideas happen and most of our snacks disappear. A friend brought over a foster corgi named Mabel, who spent the entire first half sitting in front of the television like she had been hired by the league. Every time someone yelled at the ref, Mabel barked once. Not twice. Once. Crisp. Judicial. Final.
Then someone in the room said, “That dog has red card energy,” and everyone got quiet in the way a room gets quiet when the shirt has already introduced itself.
We started sketching that night with two rules. First, the dog could not look angry. Anger is easy. This had to be the look of a dog who has read the policy and is disappointed you made her use it. Second, the design needed movement, because “red card energy” is not passive. It is the moment you stand up a little straighter. It is leaving the party when the vibes turn feral. It is muting the thread, returning the bad take, declining the emotional side quest.
