A human walked into a rescue “just to look,” signed forms, bought the wrong size harness, cried in the parking lot, and became staff. The big block letters, ADOPTED DOG MOM, are stacked loud and proud in yellow, orange, and hot pink, with a rough vintage texture that feels like an old rescue fundraiser poster you would actually keep. The vertical tear between the words and Maple is there for a reason. It is the before-and-after line. On one side, a person with plans. On the other, a dog who has reorganized the entire household.

Why we made it
This design started in a very BarkShirt way, with three separate messages in one week from customers asking for something that said “adopted dog mom” without looking like it belonged on a tote bag full of organic zucchini. One message stuck with us. A customer named Jenna told us she adopted a senior Pom mix after fostering her for “one weekend,” which is foster language for “the dog has already chosen a pillow.” At the vet, someone called Jenna the dog’s owner, and the dog immediately barked from inside a blanket burrito. Jenna wrote, “She corrected them. I am her mother.”
That line lived rent-free in our notes. We wanted the design to feel like that bark. Not angry, just hilariously firm. The first sketch had a sleepy hound, but it was too gentle. Then we tried a terrier with judgey eyebrows, which was funny, but not tender enough. Maple appeared when we started thinking about the smallest dog in the waiting room having the biggest opinion. Once she got the blanket wrap and the sunrise backdrop, the whole thing clicked.
